Privacy policy
This policy explains what See My Beer collects, why, and your choices. See My Beer is a tap-sign display for PerfectDraft machines; the marketing site and the paid subscription service are operated by the See My Beer project.
What we collect & why
- A hashed device identifier. To license a sign, the device sends a
one-way hash of its network MAC address (
sha256(mac)) — never the raw MAC. This is how a subscription attaches to a specific sign. A hash is pseudonymous, not anonymous (it consistently identifies the same device), so we treat it as personal data. - Payment & customer details. Payments are processed by Polar as Merchant of Record. Polar collects your email and payment details; we never see or store your card number. TODO: link Polar’s privacy policy.
- Basic technical logs. Cloudflare (our host) processes standard request logs to serve and secure the site.
- Privacy-friendly analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not track you across sites or build a profile.
- No marketing list. We do not run a newsletter or marketing email list, and we do not collect emails for marketing on this site.
Cookies & consent
We aim to run with no non-essential cookies. Analytics is cookieless and there’s no advertising or cross-site tracking, so there’s no consent banner to click through. TODO: confirm final cookie inventory before launch.
How the device identifier is handled
Licensing is keyed on the hashed device identifier, not your email — so the sign can unlock regardless of which email you paid with. Your email exists only in the payment record held by Polar and, if you contact us, in support correspondence. Because the subscription’s device code and the payer’s email are both held by Polar at the payment layer, they can be correlated there; the on-device licence check itself only ever uses the hashed identifier.
Subscriptions, cancellation & refunds
Paid modes are billed monthly through Polar as Merchant of Record. You can cancel any time from the billing portal; your access continues to the end of the paid period. Your statutory rights under UK consumer law are unaffected. TODO: finalise cancellation/refund wording with the Terms. See our Terms.
Data deletion
You can ask us to delete your data. A deletion request is actioned across everywhere
it lives: the licence record (keyed by sha256(mac)), the anonymous
device-activation count, and the payment/customer record held by Polar. TODO: publish the contact route + expected turnaround.
Contact
TODO: add the privacy contact address / support route (helpdesk not yet live).
